Yakitori gained popularity after opening its first store on Shanghai's Shanxi South Road for its authentic Kurume-style yakitori. A second site was near the Shanghai Conservatory of Music is situated in a quieter neighborhood, aiming to offer urbanites a modern yet lively late-night dining spot. The design revolves around the themes of “home” and “vibrant atmosphere,” while incorporating a distinctive YAKUZA aesthetic to create a strong sense of form. We amplified the structural elements inherent in Chinese characters: the two strokes of the character “大” are dramatically exaggerated, evoking traditional roof eaves, while the four dots at the bottom of “鸟” represent flames. These graphic features serve as the core of brand recognition and memorability. Subtle curves are woven into stroke details to imbue lines with tension. A custom English typeface was developed based on the visual rhythm and stroke sensations of Chinese characters. This integrated visual language highlights the distinctive taste of Yakitori.
